Where panels fear to tread
Article Abstract:
This article examines the public debate that is preceding Australia's referendum in which its citizens will decide whether to remain a constitutional monarchy or become a republic, and argues that the quality of the debate has thus far been poor. Relevant points include the failure of both the republican and monarchist camps to articulate either compelling arguments in favor of their own views or an effective critical analysis of the other side's position.

Bombs in the briefcase
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented of some of the areas that Australian Prime Minister John Howard needs to beware of blowing up in his face. Australia's new tax regime, education, and a government surplus supplied by tax-payers and being spent at the government's leisure, are some of the areas that are potentially dangerous if they are ignored by Howard.
