Canadian politicians claim that national or subsidized day care is not feasible because of budget and economic constraints. Polls indicate that reducing government deficits has more importance with consumers than child care. Promises by politicians and programs are described.

A trail of horror: a report on violence against women draws fire

A federal panel spent two years researching violence against women issued a final report. The panel gave 494 recommendations on how to curb the violence. Some women's groups criticized the panel because they believe the report's findings will be ignored.
