The words used by media to cover the issues surrounding the deregulation of the electric industry help shape public perception and acceptance of the deregulation. A survey on people's opinion regarding the deregulation of the energy industry showed that many were affected by the the cultural nuances injected in the words used. Words such as deregulation, competition, restructuring and choice can have good or bad implications, depending on the current usage of the word and how these words were used to describe actual events.

An increasing number of electric utilities are offering home security services and systems in hopes to generating new revenues and retaining customers. Electric utilities have ventured into the home security business through the acquisition of a security company, strategic partnerships or establishing their own security business. However, utilities that intend or have entered the security business should ensure that they are well prepared to meet their customers security needs and to overcome regulatory hurdles.

Olympic power
Article Abstract:
Georgia Power Co. is the official power supplier of the 1996 Olympic Games. Georgia Power has contributed to the beautification of the city through the undergrounding of several power lines and the planting of trees. The utility has also lent its expertise in designing the electrical requirements of sports venues in the state. Georgia Power is the supplier of 17 of the 20 competitive venue sites. The utility has prepared well for the expected increase in power demand by increasing its load by 600 megawatts.
