Mathematical modeling of passive dry cooling for power plants in arid land
Article Abstract:
An analysis of passive cooling through convection and infrared radiation presents an alternative to common cooling techniques for power plants located in dry regions. Using the concept of evaporation suppression, a mathematical model was constructed for a cooling pond covered by a radiator plate whose coating has high emissivity in the infrared wavelength and low absorptivity. Computer simulation of the proposed system on a 24-hour basis showed a total heat rejection of 150 to 180 watts per square meter under ordinary conditions.

Radiation limitation of stagnation temperature in high temperature selective absorbers
Article Abstract:
The problem of stagnation, which occurs at no load conditions for solar collectors, is addressed in the study of high temperature selective absorption surfaces. Using polycrystalline or crystalline germanium to model such a layer, theoretical computations yielded efficient operation of solar collectors with a sharp-cutoff surface coating at temperatures nearing 400 degrees Celsius. However, radiation losses caused by emissivity changes of the layer may extend operations beyond 500 degrees Celsius.

Development of aluminum first surface mirrors for solar energy applications
Article Abstract:
First surface mirrors of solar energy reflectors were constructed and tested outdoors in a study which examined possible innovations to present solar energy technology. Aluminum films were deposited on the soda lime substrate which was thermally evaporated then cleaned by a glow discharge. Mirrors built had Si2O3 and SiO films as front surfaces with respective reflectances of 0.86 and 0.82. Degradation occurred as corrosion after two years.
