The cosmetics industry is following the pharmaceutical industry into the area of delivery systems and controlled release technology. A dramatic wave of innovations present themselves to address new market-driven opportunities. Most consumers are aware that ceramides and lipids replenish the skin's own natural barrier function,, vitamins nourish the skin and AHAs smooth wrinkles. New formulating challenges occur with the introduction of these new materials. It sometimes becomes necessary to incorporate active ingredients first into a delivery vehicle in order to formulate an effective, stable product that provides significant benefits.
