D1/D2 dopamine receptor interaction at the biochemical level
Article Abstract:
D1 and D2 dopamine receptors were found to feature inhibitory effects on Na+/K+-ATPase activity at the cellular level. This receptor interaction required the stimulation of both dopamine receptors because tests using D1 and D2 selective receptor agonists showed that individual activation failed to elicit any inhibitory effects. Furthermore, this study revealed that some dopamine-induced neuronal responses may be attributed to the synergistic action of D1 and D2 receptors.

Article Abstract:
T. M. Schwartz and M.M. Rosenkilde correctly showed that the activation of seven transmembrane domain (7TM) receptors can be achieved in different ways. These include the small molecule binding with the pocket formed by the 7TMs, the binding with an exposed exterior portion of the receptor and by antibodies binding to the receptor and mutation. However, a slight modification of their 7TH receptor activation paradigm is needed.

Dopamine receptor partial agonists are discussed as a potential way to address cocaine craving, which can occur with either too little or too much dopamine.
