Fluorescent ligands for the study of receptors
Article Abstract:
Fluorescent ligands combined with confocal microscopy offers a new method for studying receptors and receptor-mediated mechanisms in living tissues. Fluorescent ligands are useful for determining the presence and distribution of receptors within a multi-cellular preparation and for localizing the binding on or within single cells at a given time point. Furthermore, it is possible to measure concentration-dependent binding with or without non-labelled competitors.

Metabotropic GABA(sub B) receptors cloned at last
Article Abstract:
Scientists have finally succeeded in cloning GABA(sub B) receptors. The effort, which utilized an expression cloning technique for determining the DNA that codes the receptor sequence, has revealed that the receptors belong to the family of seven transmembrane G protein-coupled receptors. The cerebellum and cerebral cortex of 7-day-old rats were used to develop a cDNA library for the receptor.

Learning about kainate receptors
Article Abstract:
Researchers will be able to learn more about the function of kainate receptors now that a chemical has been developed that can block KA receptors that contain the GluR5 subunit. The KA receptor is one of the three ionotropic glutamate receptor classes.
