GERMANY: CAPITAL INJECTION TO VIROFEM

Virofem Diagnostica GmbH of Mainz is receiving up to DM 8.5mn from Hamburg-based Pricap Venture Partners AG to finance the development and launch of new products. Virofem is close to launching Viroactiv, which allows early diagnosis of cancer of the uterus. It is also preparing further diagnostic products including one for human papilloma virus (HPV). Pricap Venture Partners AG is taking an up to 40% stake in Virofem within a capital increase.

German Hanover-based company AdnaGen AG has developed an RT-PCR-based test system for the diagnosis of testicular tumours and is conducting clinical tests with the technology for breast and colon cancers. The new technology is said to be more accurate than conventional ones.

A new vaccine against viruses linked with cervical cancer is to be undergo clinical tests by MediGene AG of Munich and Schering AG of Berlin. The vaccine could serve for both prevention and treatment.
