Is the R and R* dichotomy real?
Article Abstract:
The effects of allosteric modulators on muscarinic receptors were observed to relate them with interpretations of agonist-receptor-G protein interactions. The receptors were characterized as either active or inactive. Variations in the interactions between classical antagonists and allosteric modulators were observed. In addition to this, allosteric modulators attached to muscarinic receptors at sites different from the orthosteric binding site indicating that activation of the receptors was achieved by agents such as alcuronium and gallamine.

Receptor targets in William Tell country: insights into receptor biology using fluorescent proteins
Article Abstract:
The 1998 Swiss Receptor Workshop of Receptor Methodology featured new studies in receptor biology research. Several techniques and discoveries were reported regarding the field. Among these were the use of fluorescent proteins to identify G protein coupled receptors (GPCR). GPCR function was also studied by using receptors for the peptides vasopressin and oxytocin. A new discovery was that of the cloning of a human neurotensin receptor which is able to bind neurotensin with similar affinity to the receptors cloned at previous studies.

Will the real NMDA receptor please stand up?
Article Abstract:
Pharmacologists continue to search for the group which contains the NMDA receptor using molecular cloning procedures. Several studies have been conducted focusing on the fractionation of oocyte membranes to determine the molecular masses of the different protein subunits contained in a single polypeptide. Pharmacologists are also engaging in studies which aim to classify the proteins found in NMDA receptors.
