Polymers in personal-care products
Article Abstract:
Compared to surfactants, polymers are the most versatile basic material in the cosmetic industry. It can create different effects in formulation even if used in small amounts. Polymers are macromolecules that are made up of monomers. They can be made of naturally occurring materials or synthetically produced. Natural polymers come from polysaccharides, proteins and nucleic acids. Meanwhile, synthetic polymers are made by reacting monomers in a vessel. Polymers are used in the cosmetic industry for formulations, such as conditioning, humectancy, thickening and opacity functions.
