TiPS on nomenclature
Article Abstract:
The sixth edition of the TiPS Receptor and Ion Channel Nomenclature Supplement (RNS) will be published in March 1995. This nomenclature guide reflects the reappraisal of characterization and classification of receptors. The classification in the RNS focuses on topics such as definition of a receptor, role of structure, role of ligand affinity, nomenclature according to preferred ligands and nomenclature abbreviation. Seven modifications to the sixth edition are presented.

Dopamine receptor nomenclature
Article Abstract:
Pharmacologists are developing several classification schemes to avoid confusion and repetition when identifying dopamine receptors and their subtypes. Classification systems are divided into hierarchial and non-hierarchial, depending upon the characteristics of the receptors. Receptors which are classified using the non-hierarchial approach include the muscarinic family while adrenoceptors are classified using a hierarchy.

TiPS receptor and ion channel nomenclature supplement 1996
Article Abstract:
The TiPS Receptor and Ion Channel Nomenclature Supplement 1996 is a compilation of data and information on receptors or ion channels. Certain criteria established by the International Union of Pharmacology Committee on Drug Classification and Receptor Nomenclature were used in the classification of a receptor or ion channel. Names or designations for each receptor or ion channel are included.
