US: BASF TO CLOSE CHEMICALS PLANT
Article Abstract:
At the end of year 2000 BASF is to close its factory in Rensselaer, New York, which produces colours for the paper, textile, leather and plastics industries. The plant employs about 200 staff. In 1998 the BASF division of colours and finishing products, which has production plants in Charlotte and Huntington in the US and Altamira in Mexico, generated a turnover of DM 12.104bn, down 5.4% from 1997 due to the fall of prices. Operating profit grew 33.8% to DM 1.256bn.

In mid-2003 BASF AG of Germany will close the production of latices for the paper and carpet industries in Arnhem, Netherlands. The production is said to be unprofitable.
