U.S.-Africa policy as human rights

This article addresses U.S. policy towards Africa, suggesting potential avenues of engagement for the Bush Administration, emphasizing the application of broad principles encouraging the promotion of human rights. The author asserts that placing human rights as the central policy issue is practical, because economic development and regional security are not sustainable when human rights are violated due to violence, internal conflicts and refugee movements.

Supporting sovereignty in Africa
Article Abstract:
This article examines U.S. foreign policy toward Africa, asserting that the continent's various wars need to be resolved before any other attentions can be paid to the region. The author discusses the political, social and economic conditions in Africa since the 1990s, considering developments which have weakened African state systems and regional boundaries, and suggesting the need for and methods of conflict resolution beyond military means.
