Allies, Russia reject U.S. plan for stronger action in Bosnia
Article Abstract:
European countries, especially Britain and France, and Russia oppose the American plan of May 1, 1993 to end the UN arms embargo against Bosnia and to ensure that the Bosnian Muslims were adequately armed against the Bosnian Serbs. Though this plan followed the Bosnian Serbs' original refusal to accept the Vance-Owen peace plan on Apr 26, 1993, the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic signed Ethics on May 2, 1993. The Bosnia Serb parliament's consequent refusal to ratify this move, Serbia's measures against Bosnia and the creation of five more safe areas in Bosnia are also discussed.

Article Abstract:
Hungary became the 65th signatory to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) on October 31, 1996, and set the clock ticking for the treaty's overdue implementation. Hungary's formal accession to the treaty has put pressure on the US to ratify the accord before its enforcement on April 29, 1997. Also, the signatories to the treaty will prepare for its activation. The convention's implementing body together with its administrative, executive and verification branches will formally come into existence with its entry into force.
