The US released 20 additional pages of the NSC-68, a document used as the blueprint for American security policy throughout the Cold War, after 20 years of declassification. The material focused on drafts of two annexes of the document that characterized aspects related to the containment effort outlined in the document. It also covers the goals and responsibility of the information program. However, the reasons behind the government's decision to keep the pages a secret for two decades remain a mystery.

Making grand strategy: the early Cold War experience in retrospect

Article Abstract:

The NSC-68, a document used as the blueprint for American security policy throughout the Cold War, supported a critical function in shaping the strategy that helped the US accommodate problems related to the event. However, there were some flaws in strategy that that country utilized in dealing with the Cold War. The country needs to develop a novel grand strategy for the future. It should base its design on experiences and lessons learned in dealing with concerns during the Cold War.

Article Abstract:

The relevance of the NSC-68 in modern international relations was examined. The document, which was used by the US as the blueprint for its security policy throughout the Cold War, helped the country accommodate concerns related to its relations with the former Soviet Union. The country should learn from its experiences during the Cold War in designing novel foreign policies. These experiences correlate with military, political and technical issues.
