Article Abstract:
Europeans would look back on the late twentieth century as an interlude between the Second World War and the sectarian war that would soon engulf what was once the Ottoman Empire and spill over into European Union in 2006. It would not be a war between states, or superpower blocs or empires but would be more like a civil war.
