Explaining the Left's resurgence
Article Abstract:
Accumulation of leftist victories leads to the conclusion that they represent a regional trend. A general explanation is provided for this trend by focusing on the regional and international factors that have helped shape this wave of electoral victories and though it is likely that the left will not always win, its new found competitiveness will be a permanent feature of electoral politics in most Latin American countries.

Decentralization and political parties
Article Abstract:
This article examines the impact decentralization has had upon the Latin American political system. The author, maintaining decentralization was expected to increase the efficiancy of Latin American political institutions, argues it has only fragmented Latin America's already weak political system.
