Fairness and cores: a comment on Laden
Article Abstract:
A rebuttal of Anthony Laden's claims in his article 'Games, Fairness and Rawl's A Theory of Justice' is presented. The relationship between cores and fairness is determined. A definition of games as being the abstract interaction between players is contrasted with Laden's idea of a game being a system of rules. The idea that some games with empty cores result in fair outcomes and that some games with non-empty cores have no fair outcomes is discussed by use of hypothetical games. It is concluded that a direct relationship between cores and fairness does not exist.

Games philosophers play: a reply to Gauthier
Article Abstract:
An answer to David Gauthier's criticism of an earlier paper by the author is presented. The argument that the examples given by Gauthier are counter to the game theory is forwarded. Differences in opinion regarding the role of game theory in moral and political philosophy are discussed. In contrast to Gauthier, game theory is perceived as a means of clarifying ideas, beliefs, institutions and their interrelations. Gauthier's earlier discussion of some hypothetical games is criticized and a conclusion is made regarding fairness in relation to cores.
