Getting to Arab democracy: What do Iraqis Want?
Article Abstract:
Elections were held in January, 2005 for a national assembly in the hope of putting Iraq on a path toward democracy and the elected officials established a transitional government and drafted a constitution, which was approved by a referendum in October and the process concluded with the election of a new parliament in December. Political-science research makes it clear that the view of the ordinary citizens is critical for sustaining and consolidating a democratic regime.
