IAEA asks for special inspection of North Korean sites
Article Abstract:
Officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have called on the North Korean government anew to allow its inspectors to check two suspected nuclear sites as part of its commitment to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Pyongyang government refused to give permission to IAEA officials because the sites were military facilities without any existing nuclear operations. The government also protested that the use of intelligence information derived from third parties was a violation of the safeguards agreement.

IAEA conducts first inspection of North Korean nuclear facilities
Article Abstract:
Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted the first inspection of the North Korean nuclear program. The inspection was meant to verify North Korean claims that their nuclear program was designed for peaceful purposes amid charges from the US and South Korea that the nation was developing nuclear weapons. IAEA officials hailed the development, saying that it was a sign that North Korea was beginning to cooperate with the agency.

North Korea submits declaration to IAEA
Article Abstract:
North Korea submitted a statement outlining its secretive nuclear program to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In the report, North Korea described its whole nuclear program as designed for peaceful purposes. It described a plant in Yongbyon, which US analysts view as a large-scale plutonium processing facility, as a plant for the separation of uranium and putonium. The IAEA will conduct intrusive inspections to verify data submitted to it.
