Pentagon releases annual report on global proliferation threats

The Defense Department's annual report 'Proliferation: Threat and Response' details the global dangers posed by weapons of mass destruction and measures taken by the US to counter their proliferation through its Defense Counterproliferation Initiative. The report identifies the Middle East and North Africa as the regions of highest proliferation. Iran is actively pursuing the goal of achieving nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons with the help of China and North Korea. Pakistan and India have sufficient fissile material for nuclear bombs.

Brazil gains MTCR membership; space program remains intact
Article Abstract:
Brazil was admitted into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) as a full member at its 10th plenary session that was held in Bonn, Germany from October 10-12, 1995. Brazil is now entitled to export advanced civilian space technology from other MTCR states. However, Brazilian countries cannot export MTCR-controlled technologies without prior government approval. Brazil's space programs, particularly the SLV program, remains in tact.
