Oil and politics in the 1990s
Article Abstract:
In the 1990s there is less risk to the public interest than to private interest posed by oil companies. There is less risk of price explosions and destabilization of the international oil market since the Middle East is relatively stable. Also, oil-consuming governments feel that confrontation doe not affect producers' policies which results in low public risk. However, oil companies must shoulder additional risk by increased direct cross-border investment such as the burden of increased protective requirements on private interests.
