Overlapping transitions in China's leadership
Article Abstract:
The politics surrounding China's leadership transition reveals its leaders' threatening attitude toward Taiwan and the US. Party General Secretary Jiang Zemin has worked to consolidate his position in the party by taking an opposing stand toward Taiwan and the US in the 1996 Taiwan Strait crisis and by promoting fellow leaders from Shanghai. Jiang has followed Deng Xiaoping's concepts of economic reform and, with the aging Deng's support, will most likely be China's next leader.

Keeping a cool distance
Article Abstract:
The Portuguese-ruled territory of Macau will be returned to China on Dec 20, 1999. This follows the return of Hong Kong to China in July 1997. The completion of these two reunifications is seen by many in China as an end to centuries of foreign invasion of their territories. This is also important for the return of Taiwan which many Chinese see as a completion of China.

Leadership: a cognitive perspective
Article Abstract:

Eliot, influence people's lives by their creative endeavors.
