Religion, politics, and security in Central Asia
Article Abstract:
This article examines the way in which international pressure has shaped Central Asia's response to Islamic extremists. The author argues that international interference, with conflicting agendas, has contributed to the formation of Central Asia's political conflicts, as well as influence the government's negative reaction to the Islamic extremist groups, which has been futile in combating the fundamentalist movements.

Persian Gulf security: lessons of the past and the need for new thinking
Article Abstract:
The Persian Gulf has faced many problems since the 1950s due to its rich oil and gas reserves and its proximity to the former Soviet Union, the Indian subcontinent and the Arab heartland. Lasting stability will not be possible till the conflicts in all Gulf countries are settled. Regional and international cooperation should be established.

The Caucasus region, both North and South, stands out in terms of active or latent disputes about territorial and ethnic borders. It is argued that the Caucasus' existing predicament is the result of its turbulent history, especially the period related to the Soviet domination of the region.
