Superfund and the politics of US hazardous waste policy
Article Abstract:
Superfund has created a lot of controversies since it was established in 1980 when Congress passed the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA). These controversies stem from the seeming lack of fairness of the liability provisions found in CERCLA and the federal government's negative assessment of Superfund. Questions about the competency of the EPA in implementing Superfund widen and deepen the controversies. Inconsistencies in the agency's standards from state to state have also generated confusion.

Interpreting nature and politics in the history of western thought: the environmentalist challenge
Article Abstract:
The division between nature and culture has been seen as part of Western thought, but there is an alternative view which sees social understandings arising from ideas of nature. The first view can be called 'dualism', and the second can be called 'derivation'. There are a number of ways in relating nature and politics, and neither derivation nor dualism are the cause of nature having been devalued. Humans are part of nature and culture cannot be separated from nature. There is also a need to focus on political issues related to the environment.

Foreign direct investment in hazardous industries in developing countries: rethinking the debate
Article Abstract:
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in hazardous industries of developing countries has been examined. It has been observed that multinational corporations have increased their FDI and double standards in the hazardous industries of the South since the 1990s. The study finds that these practices will continue in the future given the current global economic and regulatory climates. Northern-based firms face rising environmental costs and increased sensitivity to cost differentials at the same time.
