History and social science show that Protestantism has contributed to the development of democracy, to create a web of mediating factors. Protestantism also contributes to vibrant public sphere and economic development by reducing corruption.

Religious institutions, personalities and ideas are the forces for democratization across a wide variety of traditions and societies. Orthodox Christianity and democracy are generally compatible in theory as well as in practice.
