Toward a consensus on Iraq
Article Abstract:
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein continues to pose a challenge to both the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the United Nations Security Council. It is now vital that the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), which will replace the United Nations Special Commission on Iraq, is successful. The US must acknowledge that a successful strategy for dealing with Iraq requires a broad consensus. For this reason, the US should make its main goal stopping Iraq from gaining the ability to use any weapons of mass destruction. The US must work hard to assist UNMOVIC as a multinational initiative.
