Trade politics of the American Congress
Article Abstract:
The United States Congress has generally pursued liberal international trade policies since the end of World War Two. Current controversy splits Congress along party lines over the standards of environmental and labor practices tied to trade. Democrats favor tieing these issues to trade, while Republicans do not. This has hampered the fast track approach Congress has taken since 1974. Further uncertainty exists with the newly elected Congress members from 1992 onwards.

China, the World Trade Organization, and the Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures
Article Abstract:
China should be included in the World Trade Organization (WTO) since its economic reforms are expected to make it a major economic power and the largest single consumer market by the year 2000. However, trading partners should carefully assess China's rejoining status. GATT and WTO principles have to be innovatively construed and applied to create fair conditions for both China and other WTO members.
