US Sec of State Colin Powell hopes that focusing on weapons of mass destruction will help repair international support for Iraqi economic sanctions. The US may support ending the consumer goods restrictions in return for a reintroduction of international weapons inspections.

The voluntary guidelines of the 32-nation Missile Technology Control Regime have been accepted by South Korea after 5 years of negotiations. The 300-kilometer missile range allows South Korea to hit most major North Korean targets.

The administration of President George W. Bush is reconsidering the Iraqi sanctions regime which resulted from the Persian Gulf War. The limiting of sanctions to proscribed weapons programs is discussed.
