Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa: sibling sex ratio and birth rank - a catchment area study
Article Abstract:
Some believe that disturbed family relations might contribute to eating disorders among family members. To test the idea, some 293 females who visit an eating disorders clinic in the UK were studied to determine whether there is a birth rank effect or whether all-female sibships are overrepresented in the families of those with eating disorders. Results show that neither birth rank nor all-female sibships helps develop anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa in family members.
