Are eating and psychological characteristics in early teenage years useful predictors of eating characteristics in early adulthood? A 7-year longitudinal study
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that the early teenage years may be critical indicators of many women's eating habits in early adulthood. A seven-year, longitudinal study of teenage girls studies the role of psychosocial factors and eating attitudes in eating behaviours in early adulthood. Perfectionism, self-esteem, eating attitudes and family functions are measured at 12 years, and eating behaviour and attitudes at 19 years. It is shown that bulimic attitudes in the early teens translate into subsequent bulimic behaviour, while perfectionism and self-esteem are only weakly linked to subsequent eating behaviour.

The effect of perceived control over eating on the life satisfaction of women and men: results from a community sample
Article Abstract:
A new study investigates whether perceived lack of control over eating and/or obesity contribute to life satisfaction levels in men and women living in the community. The study of 963 men and 1,069 women shows that, for women, higher body mass index and lack of perceived eating control are associated with less life satisfaction, while, for men, only lack of perceived eating control affects life satisfaction. It is also shown that attitudes towards eating are more psychologically important than actual physical weight.
