Are eating and psychosocial characteristics in early teenage years useful predictors of eating characteristics in early adulthood? A 7-year longitudinal study
Article Abstract:
Researchers undertook a 7-year study to investigate the relationship between eating and psychosocial characteristics at 12 years of age and eating behaviors at 19 years of age. They found that, in the group of 63 women studied, psychosocial characteristics at 12 had only limited value in predicting eating disorders at 19. Family functioning at 12 years had some consistent links with later eating behaviors, but scores for self-esteem and perfectionism were not reliable predictors. Bulimic and restrictive attitudes at the younger age were linked to bulimic and purging behaviors at 19 years.

Emotional eating and eating psychopathology among non-eating-disordered women
Article Abstract:
The Emotional Eating Scale (EES) is used to determine whether emotional eating is associated with the unhealthy eating habits of the general population. Results show that emotional eating is mostly practiced by bulimic women in the broader population. This study also proved the high levels of validity and internal consistency of EES as compared to the Eating Disorders Inventory scale. Furthermore, EES' potential to aid early identification of eating disorders in nonclinical groups is seen.
