Body image and body weight in obese patients
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the direct influence of excess weight on body image. A sample of 110 obese subjects and 131 formerly obese persons was evaluated for their affective, cognitive and attitudinal aspects of body image construct using three self-rating questionnaires. Results indicate that the normalization of body weight and shape leads to a distinct enhancement of the body image of an obese person. At the same time, body dissatisfaction among post-obese persons was comparative to that displayed by persons who have never been obese.

Binge eating in obesity: a longitudinal study following biliopancreatic diversion
Article Abstract:
Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) significantly reduces binge eating episodes in obese patients. The BPD operation enables the patients to follow a free eating style, and successfully achieve and maintain a normal body weight. Two years following the operation, the patients report a marked reduction in binge-eating, and improvement in psychological conditions. Very few patients engage in binge eating post-BPD. Findings reveal the important impact of overweight, preoccupation with food and dieting on eating behavior and psychological traits.

Binge eating in massively obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery
Article Abstract:
A study conducted on 92 massively obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery revealed approximately three quarters of them suffered from binge eating problems. Binge eating led to an increase in body weight and an increase in psychopathological tendencies due to the inability to handle negative social attitudes. Fluctuations in weight are higher in binge eating patients. The obese binge eaters do not compensate by vomiting or using laxatives.
