Body mass index as an estimate of body fat
Article Abstract:
On comparing body mass index (BMI) with percentage body fat (%fat), it is observed that correlation of percentage body fat with BMI is low. Although some correlations are found between BMI and %fat, BMI determined only 66% of the variance in %fat in adults and 58% in teenagers. With so much variance possible at all ages it was determined that BMI should be used cautiously in studies of eating disordered patients. Research methodologies are described and further research is recommended.

Restrained and unrestrained females' positive and negative associations with specific foods and body parts
Article Abstract:
A study analyzed the extent to which specific foods and body parts would be associated with positive or negative emotions for young women and whether these affective judgments would vary among unrestrained and restrained females. Results suggest that the affective associations with foods and body parts, which depend on their categorization or specific meanings, were very subtle. Fewer differences were noted when subjects from the high and low restraint groups were compared.

Ideal body size beliefs and weight concerns of fourth-grade children
Article Abstract:
A survey of 817 children in the fourth grade was conducted to find out whether there exists a relationship between body size perception and ethnic as well as gender differences. It has been previously established that such a relationship exists for adolescents. Survey results show that the trend is true as well for children. Female and white children were more predisposed to opt to become thinner than blacks and males.
