Can we leave cognition to cognitive psychologists? Comments on an article by George Loewenstein
Article Abstract:
A behavioral approach to decisions and how they interact with visceral factors will adequately incorporate noncognitive factors into the general normative-descriptive framework of behavioral decision making. Called 'teleological behaviorism,' the postbehaviorist theory can assimilate both cognitive and noncognitive factors into the framework. Under the theory, the struggle between mind and emotion is entirely on the behavioral level. Reason and passion are not variables behind behavior but constitute behavior itself.

The real world: what good is it?
Article Abstract:
A study of the impact of decision theory on real-life applications concludes that a blend of normative and descriptive analysis is the best approach in describing how people make decisions and what they wish to achieve. Normative analysis aims to sharpen and clarify one's thoughts, while descriptive analysis may elucidate important yet hidden aspects which will bring the decision maker closer to the real world.
