Causal attribution as a search for underlying mechanisms: an explanation of the conjunction fallacy and the discounting principle
Article Abstract:
Three studies on causal attribution show that people use both conjunction and discontinuing principles in judging the relationship between cause and effect, rather than relying solely on covariation information. They rate probability of conjunctive explanations as more likely than the probability of each constituent explanation. However, a tendency to discount other causes exists when a cause is known to be true. The results make it impossible for the covariation theories to explain this contradictory process.

Categories and causality: The neglected direction
Article Abstract:
Traditionally it is believed that the relationship between categories and causality views categories as reflecting casual relations in the world. However, categories that are acquired in previous learning contexts can have a crucial influence on subsequent casual learning, which implies that the causal relations seen in the world would depend on the categorical schemes used to describe causes and effects.

Causal status as a determinant of feature centrality
Article Abstract:
This article examines the influence of conceptual features on the categorization of a concept. Findings indicate that causal features, or features that are central to the definition of a concept, are more likely to influence categorization and similarity judgements than effect features of a concept.
