Childhood sexual abuse, gender, and depression among incarcerated youth
Article Abstract:
The study examined whether sexual abuse was related to higher levels of psychological distress among incarcerated youth and if the effects were invariant across gender. Adolescents who were sexually abused during childhood compared to adolescents who were not report higher levels of depression.

Parental efficacy, self-control, and delinquency: a test of a general theory of crime on a nationally representative sample of youth
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted, using data from a nationally representative sample of adolescents, to examine the relationships between parental efficacy, self-control, and delinquent behavior. The result from the study reveals that parental efficacy is an important precursor to self-control.

Cognitive ability and delinquent behavior among inner-city youth: a life-course analysis of main, mediating, and interaction effects
Article Abstract:
Cognitive ability, rather than intelligence quotient, appears to be a significant risk factor in juvenile delinquency. A sample of nearly 1000 black inner-city offenders from Philadelphia, PA , shows lower cognitive ability strongly affects delinquency onset and its persistence.
