Cognitive and educational achievements at school age of children who failed to thrive in infancy: a population-based study
Article Abstract:
A group of children from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, was studied to assess the long-term effects of failure to thrive, measured by low weight gain. These children were found to be shorter and lighter than controls, and they had smaller head circumferences at between seven-years-old and nine-years-old. Their cognitive outcomes did not appear to be affected by early failure to thrive, and their reading and spelling scores also appeared to be normal. This has implications for children in developing countries where undernourishment may be a problem.

Mealtime energy intake and feeding behaviour in children who fail to thrive : a population-based case-control study
Article Abstract:
A study of relation between mealtime energy intake and feeding behaviour in who fail to thrive (FTT) is done by direct observation of 30 cases of FTT and 57 controls during mealtime at their homes. The study suggests that children who fail to thrive had significantly lower energy intake but did not differ significantly from controls in any other feeding behaviour, however, the type of food offered did effect feeding behaviour significantly.
