Collecting as luxury consumption: effects on individuals and households
Article Abstract:
Collecting is an acquisitive, possessive and materialistic occupation. It is is unlike other types of consumption in that it inspires passionate possessiveness and the collected objects are never put to their original functional uses. Two hundred collectors were interviewed in an attempt to examine the positive and negative aspects of collecting for the individual collector, the collector's household and society. The results of the study are discussed.

Consumption, liquidity constraints, uncertainty and temptation: An international comparison
Article Abstract:
A re-examination of the liquidity constraint hypothesis is set against other hypotheses relating to excess sensitivity and finds that excess sensitivity of consumption arises mainly because of uncertainty and the temptation to spend out of current income.

Occupational hierarchy as a device to study Mexican children's and adolescents' ideas about consumption and saving in adults
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted on Mexican children and adolescents to determine their views about occupational hierarchy is presented. Their assessment of consumption of income and savings, from such occupations are also discussed.
