The relationship between alexithymia, depression, and Axis II psychopathology in eating disorder inpatients
Article Abstract:
The prevalence, stability and clinical correlates of alexithymia were examined in patients suffering from anorexia nervosa-restricting, anorexia nervosa-binge eating/purging and bulimia nervosa-purging, and in a control group. The relationship between the level of alexithymia and Axis I and II psychopathology in the sample was also investigated. Compared to the members of the control group, those belonging to the three eating disorder groups scored higher in the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. They had higher scores in Difficulty Identifying Feelings and Bodily Sensations and in Difficulty Expressing Feelings to Others.

Smoking and body image concerns in adolescent girls
Article Abstract:
Researchers investigated the possibility of links between smoking and concerns about body image in adolescent girls. The researchers gathered questionnaire responses from 82 adolescent females with eating disorders and 411 nonclinical females, all of whom were from the eastern US. They found that 38.1% of the nonclinical group, 13.6% of the anorexics in the clinical group, and 58.8% of the bulimics in the clinical group, were regular smokers. The smokers in both groups had significantly more body image concerns.
