Construct validity of WAIS-R factors: neuropsychological test correlates in adults referred for evaluation of possible head injury
Article Abstract:
The construct validity of the factors comprising Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) is examined using a three-factor solution. Correlations with neuropsychological tests intended to measure the same three abilities support the construct validity of these factors. The Verbal Comprehension factor is found to be associated with verbal ability, verbal memory and executive functioning, while the Perceptual Organization factor is shown to be related to visual attention and visual-spatial memory. The Freedom from Distractability is found to be related to two measures of attention.
