Discriminant function analysis of depressive symptoms in binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, and major depression
Article Abstract:
The three groups of patients with binge eating disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa (BN), and major depressive disorder (MDD) can be differentiated on the basis of depressive symptoms and the Hamilton Depression scale. Bullimic patients show more concern regarding weight and shape compared to BED patients. Compulsion and obsession are associated with BN and separates it from MDD and BN. Three items, gastrointestinal somatic symptoms, paranoid symptoms, and obsessional symptoms are associated with BED and BN.

An age-matched comparison of subjects with binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa
Article Abstract:
Comparison of 35 normal-weight women subjects with bulimia nervosa (BN) and 43 obese women with binge eating disorder (BED) using the Eating Disorder questionnaire shows that the BN subjects preferred a lower body index mass, had more fear of becoming fat and were less comfortable with their binge eating behavior compared to the BED subjects. The use of Eating Disorder Inventory shows BN subjects to possess more eating and weight-related pathology with considerably higher scores on five subscales.
