Social, emotional, and behavioural differences
Article Abstract:
A sample of 20 girls and 21 boys aged nine and 11 years and living in Greek residential care units participated in a study which compared the social, emotional and school adjustment of children in long-term residential group care to that of children of the same sex and age from two-parent families. The children's behavior was observed at school and in the institutions while interviews and questionnaires were answered by teachers, caregivers and the children. The group care children showed more overall disturbance and less harmonious relationships with peers compared to those raised in families.
