Effects of cognitive load on semantic priming in patients with schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
Schizophrenic patients exhibit enhanced priming effects in the absence of distractors irrespective of the presence of stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA), while in normal controls, the priming effects are unaffected by SOA or a distractor. The reaction time is influenced by SOA in the schizophrenic patients as well as in normal people, and the responses are quicker under long rather than short SOA. The performance of a secondary task is affected in schizophrenics by the probe's appearance regardless of modality and SOA.

Relation between self-reported affect and drug urges and cravings in continuing and withdrawing smokers
Article Abstract:
A study exploring the relation between the urge to smoke and self-reported affect in continuing and withdrawing smokers was conducted. Two experiments were conducted for this study. The first had 44 adult smokers and the second had 64 female smokers. The results indicate that withdrawing smokers experienced desire to smoke to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Continuing smokers experienced a desire to smoke due to the pleasure involved in smoking.
