Effect of ambiguity and lexical availability on syntactic and lexical production
Article Abstract:
Speakers create sentences to clearly convey an idea while maintaining linguistic efficiency. In this study, six experiments were used to measure the influence of these two principles on the use of optional function words such as auxiliary verbs and complementizers. Results indicate that speakers use optional words to ease language processing rather than to avoid sentence ambiguity.

Do phonological representations specify variables? Evidence from the obligatory contour principle
Article Abstract:
This article investigates the representation of linguistic variables by examining the role of a phonological constraint on gemination, or the repetition of speech sounds, in Hebrew. Three experiments indicate that variables play a role in language production and that Hebrew speakers use tacit knowledge to constrain variables in word roots.
