Emotional and semantic priming as a measure of information processing in young people with school refusal: a research note
Article Abstract:
Researchers examined the likely effectiveness of using priming measurements to assess information processing in young people who refuse to go to school. Priming is the process which enables people to recognize words in a list more quickly if they are either semantically or emotionally related to the word before. Research amongst 20 school attenders and 20 school refusers in the 11-16 age group demonstrated that it is possible to detect emotional and semantic priming with this age group, and that priming is sensitive to some psychiatric states. The results indicated that school refusal is unlikely to be due to fear of school.

Suicide attempts and severe psychiatric morbidity among former child welfare clients--A national cohort study
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess risks for suicide attempts and severe psychiatric morbidity in younger years for former child welfare clients in ten national birth cohorts, comparing them with general population peers and inter-country adoptees. Irrespective of issues of causality, findings suggest that former child welfare/protection clients should be considered a high-risk group for suicide attempts and severe psychiatric morbidity.
