Explicit phoneme training combined with phonic reading instruction helps young children at risk of reading failure
Article Abstract:
A study was done on four hundred and ten children of pre-kindergarten age. It showed that in children without risk of reading delay, a structural phonic component is sufficient to master the alphabetical principle and to learn to read effectively, whereas children at risk of reading delay benefited with additional training in phoneme awareness.
