Imitation and identification in autism
Article Abstract:
Imitation is seen as important in helping infants to develop social links, and deficiencies in imitation are seen as one explanation for problems faced by autistic people in communicating with others. Research suggests that autistic people can imitate actions but are less able to imitate people's styles of action. Nonautistic children appear to imitate actions like the person they are copying. Lack of engagement may be related to motivation as well as perception and execution.Particular aspects of imitation may help to explain links with others.

Are there 'autistic-like' features in congenitally blind children?
Article Abstract:
Researchers compared observations and teacher-generated reports on 15 congenitally blind children, with IQs above 70, with a matched group of sighted children. They found that the blind children displayed more autistic-like features. They also compared a group of nine blind children, with IQs below 70, with a matched group of nine autistic children. They found that the two groups of children shared many clinical features. The findings can be related to theories on the nature of autism.

Maternal sensitivity and infant triadic communication
Article Abstract:
Maternal sensitivity may be related to the infants' propensity to share experiences with their mother according to a study to examine whether a mother's sensitivity to her infant was connected to the infant's propensity to engage in triadic relations. Results suggest that low intrusiveness and high maternal sensitivity were correlated and that infants wish to engage with someone in relation to the world.
