In the dark about pointing: what's the point?
Article Abstract:
Commentaries to Flanders et al's research are answered. Criticisms pertaining to previous studies used in formulating the research model are referred back to the original papers for clarification. Concerns on statistical measures are explained by indicating that standard statistical techniques were used and conclusions rested on constant and variable measures of error. The range-effect phenomenon as a viable explanation of undershoot for distal targets was not given credence due to three factors.

Limitations on what reaching can tell us about sensorimotor transformations
Article Abstract:
The discussion of sensorimotor transformations in Martha Flanders et al's article was criticized as focusing on the sensorimotor transformation alone to simplify the research problem and begin an investigation of motor control. It was proposed that the empirical model resulting from the regression analysis is not necessarily descriptive of the inverse kinematics used by the subjects because the sources of error were not limited in the control experiment.

Early stages in a sensorimotor transformation
Article Abstract:
A model was developed to evaluate the early stages of sensorimotor transformations occurring in targeted arm movement. Results of the experiment conducted show that subjects made consistent errors in distance, but not in direction. It was also shown that subjects made the errors even if they did not misperceive target location and that the errors were found to be a function of the distance between the target and the shoulder.
