Interpersonal needs in middle adolescents: companionship, leadership and intimacy

Article Abstract:

Gender differences in intimacy development among middle adolescents is investigated. Subjects were 207 middle adolescents, 70 males and 137 females. Three categories of interpersonal relationships, namely inclusion or companionship, control or leadership and affection or intimacy were assessed using Schultz's Fundamental Interpersonal Relationship Inventory. Results suggest there are gender differences in intimacy development. Females value closeness more than males while males value more autonomy within relationships.

Self-image and parental attachment among late adolescents in Belize

Article Abstract:

The relationship of ethnicity, parental education, gender, and parental attachment to multiple dimensions of self-image among 285 late adolescent Belizean students are investigated. It is found that female students reported more positive self-images than males in vocational attitudes and favourable self-images are associated with secure ratings of parental attachment.

The development of commitment and attachment in dating relationships: attachment security as relationship construct

Article Abstract:

This article examines the dynamics of close dating relationships of college students. The authors, measuring levels of attachment and commitment, maintain attachment security increases with the duration of the relationship, and males' security and commitment levels are associated with their family relationships.
